Teen Daycare Worker Charged with Murder After an Infant Dies in Her Care.

19-year-old Dejoynay Mariah Ferguson has been charged with murder after a 4-month-old baby died in her care last week. Ferguson was employed as a childcare worker at Little People Child Development Center in Bear, Delaware and according to records on last Thursday, August 29, 2019, she killed an infant because she "wouldn't stop crying".

Police and EMTs responded to a call of an infant in distress and found the baby girl in cardiac arrest. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Ferguson has been charged with first-degree murder after court documents allege that "Ferguson picked up the baby by the front of her shirt, then later put her hands on the infant's face for more than three minutes. Ferguson was wearing latex gloves at the time. . ."

Surveillance video at the day care captured Ferguson picking up the girl from the floor by the front of her shirt and then placing her on a changing table, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The infant was still alive and moving when she was placed on the changing table. After three minutes, the little girl was motionless.

Ferguson allegedly waited 20 minutes before alerting the daycare's owner that the child was not moving. It was then that a 911 call was placed.

Ferguson is being held on a $1 million bond and it is unclear if she has obtained legal council.

This is what frightens parents every day when they place their children in the care of someone else. I've been there, babies can be stressful on even the most seasoned adults but, there will never be an excuse for this.
