Dawayland Hurst (Seabrook Police Department).

A Texas man has been arrested for murdering a young mother over a sick plot for revenge.

According to reports Dawayland Hurst cultivated a plan, over a period of four years, to get revenge for the shooting death of his brother. On July 31, 2020 Hurst's brother, Diajwan Triplett, was gunned down by a man named Matthew King. King was arrested and convicted of the crime but, that wasn't enough for Hurst.

In June of 2024, Hurst struck up a romantic relationship with the mother of King's two young children. Over the next four months he allegedly abused her, and the children, as an act of revenge. Reports from the family say that "she showed up at her grandmother’s house with a bite mark on her face and accused Hurst of being the perpetrator. She also showed pictures to friends of other injuries she allegedly suffered at the hands of Hurst."

Law and Crime reports that the Seabrook Police Department responded around 11:30 a.m. Oct. 4 to a shooting at the Teakwood Apartment Complex, at 2401 Repsdorph Road. When officers arrived, they found a woman later identified as MaryJayne Collins, 24, unresponsive. She died. It turned out she was actually stabbed. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined her death to be a homicide. Two young children were inside the home at the time of the murder but were physically unharmed.

Police reports say that on the day of the murder King, who had an illegal phone in prison, placed a Facetime call to Collins to interact with his children. Instead of Collins, or one of the children, it was Hurst who answered the telephone, Hurst began taunting King then showed himself slapping one of the children in the face. The child can be heard on the video crying with Collins saying “no, get away baby, get away from him,” cops wrote. The call ended around 10 a.m. It was the last time anyone saw Collins alive.

King got word to his mother and told her of the call and she posted for someone to check on Collins on her social media page. When the police arrived, they found her dead.

After checking the Ring cameras they were able to see Hurst leaving her residence calmly around 11am and walking a route that would presumably keep him from view. He was later found and arrested.

Seabrook Police are asking for anyone with additional information to call Seabrook police at 281-291-5610.
