Flavor Unit Entertainment and BET Set November Premiere for “YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN,” Following Award-Winning Rapper, Actress Producer and Entrepreneur Queen Latifah's New Mission!

BET today announced that the Queen Latifah documentary “You Can Go Home Again” will premiere Friday, November 27 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on BET. The film, co-produced by Flavor Unit Entertainment and P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble, and distributed by BET, chronicles Queen Latifah’s early years and her passionate journey to build a beautiful, affordable housing complex for local residents in her beloved Newark, New Jersey hometown. “You Can Go Home Again” is directed by Muta’Ali and executive produced by Shakim Compere and Loretha Jones.
The news follows “An Evening with Queen Latifah,” an exclusive first look hosted by BET and Procter & Gamble on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago to kick off Soul Train Awards week. During the event, Queen Latifah shared clips from the documentary alongside her partner on this project and childhood friend Tammy Hammond. They sat down with Damon Jones, Chief Communications Officer, Procter & Gamble for an inspirational conversation about how the film represents family, home, and the spirit of possibility that can take root in a community.
Born to a police officer father and a schoolteacher mother, Rita, Queen Latifah broke through with her 1989 debut album, “All Hail the Queen,” and became one of hip-hop’s defining voices with “U.N.I.T.Y.,” her GRAMMY®-winning anthem against sexism and violence against women that helped reshape the genre for the women who followed. She went on to star in “Living Single,” earn an Oscar® nomination for “Chicago” and win a Golden Globe® and a SAG Award® for “Life Support.” In 2023, she became the first female rapper to receive the Kennedy Center Honors, and this month will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Through it all, she never left home behind. The film follows her yearslong effort to bring RISE Living, a mixed-use complex with affordable units, to the Newark neighborhood where she grew up. Its name stands for “Rita Is Still Everywhere,” a tribute to her late mother.
“You Can Go Home Again” continues Queen Latifah’s longstanding creative collaboration with P&G and their shared commitment to authentic voices and inclusive storytelling. That commitment drives the Queen Collective, which Queen Latifah, P&G and Flavor Unit Entertainment co-founded in 2018 to provide multicultural directors with creative support, skill development and mentorship. For this project, P&G’s Febreze brand extended their support to the homes themselves, providing new HVAC systems that help to ensure proper ventilation, which contributes to healthier air quality, improved overall quality of life, and fresh and welcoming spaces for the families who live there.
“You Can Go Home Again” is very personal to me,” shared Queen Latifah. “It’s about my community and the people and places that make us who we are. My collaboration with P&G helps bring those stories to the screen. I’m excited to share the film with BET audiences and invite them into a story that’s very close to my heart.”
The premiere deepens Queen Latifah’s longstanding relationship with BET, which honored her with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 BET Awards and where she now serves on the network’s first-ever Board of Advisors.
“Community, culture and connection are the pillars of everything we do at BET, and Queen Latifah lives all three,” said Louis Carr, president of BET. “She helped shape the culture, she never stopped investing in the community that raised her, and this Thanksgiving weekend, families will connect over a story that reminds all of us where we come from.”
“P&G Studios is another way we reach more consumers through powerful stories rooted in authentic experiences, creating relevant connections where our brands fit naturally,” said Anna Saalfeld, P&G Studios Head, a division of Procter & Gamble. “Our collaboration with Queen Latifah on ‘You Can Go Home Again’ provided an opportunity for a Queen Collective director to gain valuable experience by creating additional branded content that reflects how our Brands improve our consumers' everyday lives.
