North Carolina GOP Elections Official Arrested and Charged After Lacing Ice Cream with Pills and Giving it to His Granddaughter!

In a world full of imaginary monsters, some of the ones that we are most fearful of are walking among us portraying as loved ones.

A North Carolina State Board of Elections official by the name of James Yokeley has been arrested after authorities say, he laced ice cream for two young girls with pills.

According to reports from the Wilmington Police Department Yokeley, 66, was charged with contaminating food or drink with a controlled substance and felony child abuse.

Preliminary tests indicated the pills contained MDMA (also known as ecstasy) and cocaine, according to Mt. Airy News.

Police said the pills have been sent to a state lab for further testing.

The incident happened on August 8, 2025 when Yokeley approached police officer at a Sheetz gas station saying that his granddaughter and her friend had received ice cream that was suspicious. Yokeley stated that the ice cream was bought at a nearby Dairy Queen and that it contained some "hard objects" that he was concerned about.

The ice cream was then collected by the officer and taken for testing. It proved to be MDMA and an additional investigation insued. Thankfully, Wilmington officials said medical personnel determined the girls had not ingested the substances.

During the investigation, authorities took a look into nearby surveillance video from both establishments. It was then determined that it was Yokeley himself who put the drugs in the girl's ice cream.

Yokeley resigned from his position on the board of elections with a formal statement saying that he will "remain confident" and be "exonerated" of all accusations. You can read the statement in full by clicking here.

Yokeley was taken to the New Hanover County Detention Center and released on a $100,000 secured bond.
