Little Boy Saves Mom's Life After She's Choked Unconscious by Her Abusive Boyfriend.
An 11-year-old Connecticut boy turned out to be his mother's life saver after he preformed CPR on her Sunday night. Police were called to the family's Remington Street home around 8pm February 7 for a distress call. When they got there they found the young boy, on the phone with 9-1-1 preforming CPR on his lifeless mother.
The child's call for help came after he said he left his bedroom to go downstairs and investigate strange noises he heard. When he descended the stairs he said he saw his mother's boyfriend strangling her and hearing his mother saying she couldn't breathe. The boy called 9-1-1 for help and the mother's boyfriend, later identified as Israel Vargas, fled the scene.
Shortly after the police arrived the child's mother regained consciousness and told them she remembered arguing with Vargas but then nothing else.
According to reports there were four other children in the home at the time of the attack but, they were in a room away from the violence.
Vargas, who was already on probation for attacking the children's mother, was arrested nearby and taken into custody.
In October Vargas was convicted of third-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and unlawful restraint in an incident with the same victim and was sentenced to three years of probation, according to court records. A month later he was convicted of threatening the woman and violating his conditions of release and received another two years of probation.
In his preliminary court hearing, Vargas had to face the same judge who gave him probation the first time. “He has been in front of me several times recently,” Superior Court Judge Tracy Lee Dayton said of Vargas. “He was given a break as a result of the advocacy of his attorney, but I warned him what would happen if he came before me again.”
The judge ordered Vargas held in lieu of $250,000 bond and continued the case to Feb. 23.
