Woman Survives Shooting that Killed Others by Playing Dead.

One North Carolina woman is thankful to be alive today because of some quick thinking and good acting. 69-year-old Hazel Epps survived an attack that killed three other people by playing dead. Here's how everything went down according to WBTV.

"At around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Bladen County 911 center got a call about a shooting at 71 Tina Lane in Clarkton. The caller said a man had entered their home, shot several people, and left.

Deputies and EMS arrived on scene and found three people who had been shot and killed and one other victim with a gunshot wound, who survived.

The victims were identified as 30-year-old Katrice Lacole Murchison, 27-year-old Ronnie Lebert Kelly, 60-year-old Guy Lennon Barden, Jr."

Epps had been shot in the torso and said that she played dead until Johnson left the home. She was taken to an area hospital and has since been released.

The shooter, identified as Taurean Johnson, turned himself in peacefully to the police later that same day. No one has disclosed a motive for the shooting.

According to the N.C. Department of Public Safety website, Johnson has numerous previous convictions for charges including common law robbery and communicating threats. The site states that Johnson’s parole for a firearm-related conviction ended on Feb. 14.

This is absolutely horrible but, we're thankful that Ms. Epps made it out alive. Family members of one of the deceased victims have said that this has been "heartbreaking" for them and they're still "trying to take it all in". Our prayers are with these families as they deal with the harsh reality that their loved ones are gone.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office at 910-862-6960.
