Grandfather Hospitalized for UTI Fatally Beaten by Another Patient!

We don't even know where to begin with this one!

Francisco Sanchez-Reyes went to the hospital for symptoms of a urinary tract infection. UTI's are pretty common and he'd had them in the past and wasn't expecting anything other than the regular "run-of-the-mill" testing and antibiotics to treat it. However, the hospital felt the need to keep Sanchez-Reyes, 73, overnight just to keep an eye on his condition. His children say that he went to the hospital at 5:30am. By 12:15pm Sanchez-Reyes' son says his sister called him frantic and telling him he needed to "rush" to the hospital.

When his son, Ramon Sanchez, got to Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach, California, he was greeted with horrible news. His father had been the victim of a vicious attack at the hands of another hospital patient!

Sanchez said "a patient that was sharing my dad's room attacked and beat up my dad so bad that when the nurse when into check on him the nurse found him in the floor bleeding to death. When she asked what happened the attacker confessed that he gave my dad a beating."

Sanchez-Reyes slipped into a coma and passed away a week later.

The suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Reginald Daniel Panthier of Long Beach, was taken into custody and booked for attempt murder, assault with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm, and producing great bodily harm against an elder and was held in the Long Beach City Jail on $1,000,000 bail.

This is one of the most bazaar cases we've ever had to report. Almost all of us know someone who has spent the night in the hospital and, if you're a working class American, has had to share a room with a stranger. No one would think that something so ordinary could end in tragedy. Ramon Sanchez says that his father moved their family to the United States from Mexico to give them a better life. . . this definitely wasn't part of the plan.

Mr. Sanchez-Reyes' family has established a GoFundMe account to help with his final expenses.

Panthier was charged with assault with a deadly weapon that is not a firearm and producing great bodily harm against and elder.
