The Queen of Soul has been forced to take a medical sabbatical.
According to reports:
"The 76-year-old icon was slated to perform on June 28 as part of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, but now has been forced to pull out from the show 'as per doctor's orders.'
The festival reported on their official website that the singer 'has been ordered not to perform in the coming months.'
The singer has already been forced to cancel shows at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest as well as her March 25th concert at Newark's New Jersey Performing Arts Center, which was scheduled to take place on the singer's 76th birthday.
Upon cancelling her New Orleans performance, the singer's management said in a statement, 'Aretha Franklin has been ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest completely for at least the next two months.'She is extremely disappointed she cannot perform at this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as she had expected and hoped to.'In February of 2017, the singer announced that she would be retiring at the end of 2017.
'I must tell you, I am retiring this year,' she told WDIV Local 4 in Detroit. 'I will be recording, but this will be my last year in concert. This is it.'Franklin released a new album, A Brand New Me, last November.Despite the statement, she scheduled a number of shows for the beginning of 2018.The singer, however, is yet to perform this year, with her last performance coming at Elton John's annual AIDS Foundation gala in November of 2017."
We know she's has some health issues and was at one time rumored to have pancreatic cancer. At the time, she insisted that those rumors were false and did appear to make a full recovery. The rumors continued after she showed a rapid and drastic weight loss.
Let's pray for her health and strength.
