Aretha Franklin Gets Her Own End of the Street!
Yesterday the city of Detroit put a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T on Aretha Franklin's name by giving her an honor that would last more than a lifetime. A section of the busy Madison Ave, just between Brush and WItherell was named "Aretha Franklin Way" in honor of the "Queen of Soul" and her longstanding contributions to the music industry. Aretha was understandably overcome with emotion at the unveiling ceremony that was attended by city officials, family and friends. I could insert a ton of puns about Aretha's new freeway of newly found love or ask who's zooming who down Aretha Franklin's Way but I won't, I'll just settle for congratulating the Queen on her newest accolade and direct you all to the video below.
This event has drawn Aretha out of her retirement and she is set to jump start Detroit Music Weekend by performing at a tribute in her honor. In the meantime, let's enjoy this throwback "Dark End of the Street".
