North Carolina Woman Arrested for Concealing Disabled Sister's Death!
A 34-year-old North Carolina woman has been arrested after her disabled sister was found dead in her home. The family of the woman notified authorities because they were concerned and wanted them to do a welfare check on her. When they arrived at the residence police said that it appeared that no one was home.
The relatives insisted that they check the home because there was a disabled resident who lived there who was in need of constant care. Officers continued trying to reach someone inside of the residence and eventually found an unlocked window to an apparent bedroom, according to police. Officers then took a look through the window and were able to see a motionless person inside the room.
According to police, officers then entered the home through the front door to render aid to the person.
The woman, identified as Kristin Rutherford, 27, was pronounced dead.
Marion PD says according to witnesses and family members, Rutherford needed a great amount of in-home care to ensure her well-being and Rutherford's older sister, Casie Lynne McCartha was the person responsible for taking care of her.
Police searched for McCartha for days until she was found hiding at the Best Western Hotel on Tunnel Road in Asheville along with her 3-year-old daughter. McCartha was taken into custody without incident and taken to the McDowell County Court House for processing.
Police say McCartha is now being held at the McDowell County Jail under a $10,000 bond.
