North Carolina Estranged Husband Stabs His Sleeping Wife Then Throws Her Body Off of a Balcony.


A North Carolina man has been arrested for a heinous crime committed against a sleeping woman. Reports say that Matthew Stallings allegedly broke into his estranged wife's apartment yesterday evening shortly after 8pm.


A warrant obtained by WWAY TV3 states the woman was sleeping when Stallings assaulted her. Authorities say she was then stabbed with a pocket knife more than 15 times, five of which were to her neck, and thrown from a second-floor balcony, dropping more than 14 feet to the ground.


Law officials say that at the time of the assault a young child was also in the apartment. There is no word on the relation of the child to either adult.


Stallings was arrested shortly thereafter.


The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She is now in stable condition.


Sources close to the victim say that she was planning to obtain a restraining order against Stallings this morning because he had been abusive and threatening in the past.


Stallings has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault of a female, communicating threats, first-degree burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon. The victim's lawyer has stated that, depending on his client's recovery, additional charges could be added.
