New Jersey Foster Mom Arrested for Chaining Child to a Fan! Tip Called in by a Virtual Teacher!
One New Jersey child's nightmare is finally over after the woman who pretended to care for him has been jailed thanks to a caring teacher.
Reports say that the child was on Webex, a video conferencing tool used for virtual meetings and classes, when a teacher noticed that something was off with his body. His movements seemed restricted so, the teacher made a call to make sure that everything was on the up and up.
Police went to the family's home in the 500 block of Clinton Avenue on Wednesday morning around 10am to do a wellness check. When they entered they found the 12-year-old boy in a bedroom “tethered to a fan” with chains and padlocks.
Police arrested Wanser Brown, 66, the child's foster mother, on two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
There is no word on whether or not there were other children in Brown's care or just why she had shackled the child.
The boy was taken to an area hospital for evaluation then released into the custody of the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency. This incident remains under investigation by the Special Victims Unit of the Newark Police Division and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
"Thanks to the courage of a concerned teacher, who requested a wellness check, this foster child was rescued," Anthony Ambrose, the Newark Public Safety Director, said. "We are investigating this incident along with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office to gather as much information as possible about how and why this child was put in this horrific situation. We are pleased that he's now safe, and we are grateful that his teacher suspected that he was in need of police assistance."
It's a darn shame that the people children trust to take care of them, when their parents can't, turn out to be monsters.
