Netflix Releases the #FirstLook and Premiere Date for "SHIRLEY", the Biopic of Shirley Chisholm, Starring Regina King.
We've been waiting for Netflix to give us a peek at this new film for ages!
After more than a year of pre and post production, Netflix has finally let us get a glimpse of their new film "SHIRLEY" starring acting powerhouse Regina King. If you aren't aware who Shirley Chisholm was, where have you been, it's okay, we'll help you out. In 1972, Chisholm became the first Black candidate to seek a major party’s nomination for president. But she was already a pioneer: In 1968, the Brooklyn native made history as the first Black woman elected to the US Congress. Written and directed by John Ridley (also an Oscar winner for his 12 Years a Slave screenplay), Shirley tells Chisholm’s inspirational story.
Here's the film's synopsis"
SHIRLEY tells the story of the first black Congresswoman and political icon, Shirley Chisholm (right), and her trailblazing run for president of the U.S. It chronicles her audacious, boundary-breaking 1972 presidential campaign.
King's transformation, down to the clothing, is stellar and we can tell that the wardrobe, hair and makeup department are already clearing shelf space for their upcoming awards.
Although Netflix isn't giving us a lot of info on the film but what we do know is King, who's already an Oscar winner, will be accompanied in the film by Lance Reddick, Lucas Hedges, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Christina Jackson, Michael Cherrie, Dorian Crossmond Missick, Amirah Vann, W. Earl Brown, Brad James, and Reina King, with André Holland and Terrence Howard.
"SHIRLEY" will premiere on Netflix on March 22, 2024. Yeah, note to self, go ahead and keep renewing that subscription.
