Mother and Her "Common Law" Husband Charged in the Death of 8-Year-Old Texas Boy.

The death of an 8-year-old boy in a Houston, Texas hotel was first reported to the police as an accidental drowning. Emergency crews were called to the Quality Inn & Suites in the 2900 block of W. Sam Houston Parkway last night for a child in distress. When they arrived they found the boy unresponsive and were told that he had drowned. The boy was laying in the middle of the hotel room floor with multiple injuries that were not consistent with drowning.

Paramedics performed CPR on the child then transported him to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Assistant Chief W. Baimbridge ,with the Houston Police Department, said the biological mother and her boyfriend, later determined to be her common-law husband, were in the hotel room at the time.

“We believe this to be domestic violence related, and we are investigating this now with our homicide division for, we suspect, foul play,” said Baimbridge. “We are looking at both mom and boyfriend and interviewing them at this time.”

The suspects, a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, are facing charges of injury to a child and tampering with evidence, police stated. Police said they will release the couple's name and photos after they are formally charged.

The family did not live at the hotel, nor was it a long-term rental, police said.

It's sad that children aren't safe in this world. We often say that the boogeyman isn't the stranger or the weird neighbor but, it's even more sad when it's the child's actual parent.
