Miami Mother Charged with Stabbing Her Toddler to Death After Strangling Her Didn't Work.

When most families are celebrating the holidays and mothers are watching their children play with new toys, one mother has been charged with the unthinkable.

Police say that a woman from Miami, Florida has been accused of murdering her own three-year-old daughter just days after the Christmas holiday.

According to NBC Miami, the incident took place December 27, 2022 at an apartment in the 1000 block of Northeast 163rd Street, according to the North Miami Beach Police Department.

Police say the mother, identified as 24-year-old Jellisa Amoya Baxter, called 911 to report the stabbing. When they arrived to the home Baxter told police she first tried to strangle her daughter but, was unsuccessful. In a further attempt to kill the child, Baxter admitted that she started stabbing her.

“NMBPD officers also observed the body of a small Black female laying on the ground with severe deep stab wounds to her chest, neck, and face,” the arrest warrant states. “The child was deceased upon arrival.”

The murder of this child, who has not yet been identified by name, has left the surrounding community speechless with many other parents keeping a closer eye on their children and their surroundings.

“Oh my God I have four kids and I’m really scared...about this situation," said Julia Gutierrez, who works nearby. "I’m talking as a mother and as a woman.”

The North Miami Beach Police Department released Baxter's arrest records on their Twitter account which has sparked even more questions from the public.

One user by the name of @MistyBlueFla commented "She stabbed her child to death! I can't begin to imagine the fear and pain this poor little girl experienced. I Don't care if this woman has mental issues or not, she's without excuse. I hope the State seeks the DP for this monster!" Another, with the handle @Guyver_Dark stated "I have a question, how can you know that she is the one who did it? Maybe someone did it and threatened her that her family will follow if she don’t do this? Just saying… whoever did it needs to be punished…"

Police arrested Baxter, without incident, and charged her with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. As of Wednesday, Baxter remains behind bars.

This investigation is ongoing and we will report more details as they become available.
