Grandfather Arrested After His 20-month-old Granddaughter was Found Dead in His Apartment.
Add this case to the long list of cases where children were left with demons.
A 20-month-old baby was found dead in her grandfather's apartment in California and he was no where to be found.
Modesto Police released a statement concerning the discovery saying:
"On December 1, 2020 at approximately 10:30 am, MPD responded to Manchester Court Apartments located at 2200 Standiford Avenue to conduct a security check on a 20-month-old child after a family member called to report they received information that the child’s guardian was receiving treatment at an out of area medical facility and they were not sure of the whereabouts of the child.
Our officers responded to the apartment and located the little girl inside the apartment, deceased. The cause of death is still being determined at this time, but obvious signs of neglect were present."
Police found the child's guardian, 42-year-old Bryan Hicks, at a Bakersfield medical facility 200 miles away where he was being treated for an unknown ailment.
Hicks has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and child abuse, police said. He was returned to Stanislaus County from Bakersfield Wednesday evening.
According to jail records, bail has been set at $150,000.
Our hearts are literally broken for this little girl who lived a short and sad life. At this time we don't know why Hicks had custody of the baby or where her birth parents are. We understand that the foster care system isn't always a better option but, in this case, this baby would have been better off placed somewhere else.
