Famed Actress and Director, Regina King, Loses Her Only Child, Son Ian Alexander Jr., to Suicide.
The entire country has been in love with Regina King ever since she stepped onto television screens in the hit 80s sitcom "227". The actress has several awards and notable movie credits to her name but, the role she was most proud of was that of being a mother to her only son, Ian.
It has now been reported that King is facing what no mother, let alone the mother of one child, wants to face. The mother of a child who has died.
People Magazine has confirmed that King's son, 26-year-old Ian Alexander Jr., has taken his own life.
“Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian,” said King in a statement obtained by THR on Friday evening. “He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you.”
Alexander Jr., who is the son of the "The Harder They Fall" actress and her ex-husband, record producer, Ian Alexander Sr., just celebrated his 26th birthday on Wednesday, two days before he ended his life.
For King's birthday last year, Alexander Jr. posted on Instagram, writing: "Happy birthday to my co, so extremely proud of you and inspired by your love, artistry, and gangsta! To be able to watch you take this lifetime by its neck and make it yours is something i will forever be grateful for."
He continued, "But to have you as my mother is the greatest gift I could ask for. To be all that you are while always having the time to be there, love and support me unconditionally is truly remarkable. The whole marvel universe ain't got s--- on you, your the real superhero! Love you mom! This day and everyday YO DAY!!"
The pair also has matching tattoos, which read "unconditional love" in Aramaic — his on his shoulder and hers on her arm.
King always made mention of her son saying in part that "you don't really know unconditional love until you have a child."
We can't even imagine what King and her family are going through at this time but we do request that you send up some prayers for her and her family.
