A Pasadena, Texas father returned home from work on Saturday to find the absolute unthinkable. His young daughter was lifeless underneath her bed.
11-year-old Maria Gonzalez had stayed home that day while her father went to work. The two had been in constant conversation via text messages when the messages suddenly stopped.
Click2Houston reports that police were dispatched to the scene around 3:07 p.m. after Maria’s father called reporting that his daughter was not breathing.
Paramedics arrived and tried to revive the child, but she was later pronounced dead.
The father told police he and Maria had been talking on the phone that day and the last message he received was when she told him someone was knocking at the front door.
The father said when he returned home from work, he found her dead body under her bed, according to investigators.
“The medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation. Additional investigation determined that the victim was sexually assaulted,” Pasadena police said.
This case is ongoing and as of this moment, there have been no suspects publicly identified in connection with Maria's murder.
Surveillance cameras outside the apartments were not working at the time of the murder. Detectives said they are looking through other surveillance video in the neighborhood. They are also collecting DNA samples from people at the apartments.
Pasadena Police’s Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit are investigating the case. If anyone has any information about this crime, they should call Detective M. Quintanilla at 713-475-7803 or Detective S. Mata at 713-475-7878.
