Amazon Meshes "Lost"+ "Lord of the Flies" and Gives Us Youth Drama "The Wil

If you had a high school English teacher like I had then, you've read "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. This book, although first published in 1954, was the stuff that teenage nightmares was made of. If you've never read it, let me break it down for you. A small plane of young boys from an all boys school crashes and the children wash up on a deserted island. The boys, ranging in ages and social status, have to fend for themselves for months. They eventually turn wild and then turn on each other. It gets bloody, boys die and eventually, only the fittest survive.

Now, take that whole scenario and mix it with the 2004 television show "Lost", where a plane full of people crash land on an island that has been mechanically altered and secrets are more plentiful than food, and you'll get the new Amazon series "The Wilds".

Here's the official breakdown:

"Part survival drama, part dystopic slumber party, The Wilds follows a group of teen girls from different backgrounds who must fight for survival after a plane crash strands them on a deserted island. The castaways both clash and bond as they learn more about each other, the secrets they keep, and the traumas they've all endured. There’s just one twist to this thrilling drama… these girls did not end up on this island by accident."

The fact that this looks like a set up has my pressure up!

"The Wilds" stars Sophia Ali, Shannon Berry, Jenna Clause, Reign Edwards, Mia Healey, Helena Howard, Erana James and Sarah Pidgeon in the main roles. "The Wilds" also has a bit of sisterly love like "Girls Trip" but then it also gives us "Castaway" with the frenemies vibes as well. Either way, we're thankful for new content to binge watch during the pandemic!

Co-produced by Amazon Studios and ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios. The first episode of the series will be available to stream for free on Prime Video’s YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages from December 11-25. The first episode will also be available on Prime Video with no Prime account necessary during the same time period.
