Florida Woman Charged After Boyfriend's Son Dies After Being "Unresponsive for 12 Hours&quo
We're always warning moms to watch the men they have around their children but, the same goes for fathers too!
Clearwater, Florida police were called to an apartment on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday for an unresponsive child. Authorities said when they arrived they found 7-year-old Kyrie Gordon unresponsive. The child was taken to Morton Plant Hospital by Clearwater Fire and Rescue where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10am.
Reports say that the boy had been left with his father's girlfriend overnight and he'd fallen ill. 33-year-old Shantay Belcher "allegedly put the unresponsive boy in a bathtub and left him in cold water while checking on him a couple of times overnight.
After the boy remained unresponsive, Belcher reportedly called the boy’s father, who was at work, around 8 a.m. Police said she did not call 911 until the father came home shortly after."
The time lapse between when the child had presumably become unresponsive until Belcher called for help was estimated to be at least 12 hours. When questioned why she didn't seek help for Kyrie earlier, Belcher had no clear answer.
Shantay Belcher was arrested and is currently being charged with child neglect. Those charges could be upgraded depending on the outcome of an autopsy.
At this point, we don't even know who's safe to have around your children. . . Keep this child's family in your prayers. This has to be a tough time for them all.
