Lil Rel Howery is Now the Head of Comedy on Black Owned Indie Streaming Service kweliTV!

If you've ever seen the Jordan Peele movie "Get Out" or the Netflix thriller "Bird Box" then you're familiar with comedian Lil Rel Howery.

Howery has been in the comedy game for quite some time but the world stood up and took notice of him when he repeatedly saved the day in those two wildly popular films. In the middle of such heavy and dark films, Howery was a bright light that offered comedic relief and quickly won over our hearts.

Howery, who even had his own sitcom on FOX, has now taken his comedic relief and made a boss move! Howery was recently appointed as the Head of Comedy for kweliTV!

If you aren't familiar with kweliTV, they're a Black-Owned "interactive on-demand and live streaming video network offers high-quality documentaries, news programs, original docuseries, educational content and independent films and movies that have been vetted by international film festivals from North America, Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa."

Deadline was the first to report that Howery will team with kweliTV Founder and CEO DeShuna Spencer to securing new comedy content for distribution as well as partnerships and other opportunities in the comedy space. In addition, Howery will be at the forefront of kweliTV’s future plans to produce original comedy programming as the platform grows.

In celebration of Howery’s new role, kweliTV has launched the new monthly channel “Comedy Curated by Lil Rel,” which includes films, series, stand-up comedy programming and more from up and coming Black comics of all ages from across the globe. As the channel title entails, it will be curated by Howery.

“I’m really excited to put my executive hat on and give opportunities to amazing talented people of color,” said Howery. “I feel like being Head of Comedy at kweliTV puts me in a position to give a home to some of the thriving Black comedic talent around the world. DeShuna has done an amazing job with kweliTV so far and I’m excited to joins forces with her to enhance what’s already at this important and great streaming service.”

“We’re delighted that Lil Rel will be bringing his comedic and business talents to kweliTV. This has been a tumultuous year for the nation — particularly for the Black community,” adds Spencer. “Comedy is a form of healing, and we need laughter now more than ever. This collaboration will not only be a game changer for kweliTV but also for up ands coming black creatives across the globe.”

We've had the pleasure of subscribing to kweliTV for a while and we must say, we love it! We've seen films on kweliTV , like "Let the Fire Burn" about the MOVE bombing, that we NEVER would have been exposed to had this platform not been developed. The streaming service is available on its website as well as DistroTV, Comcast Xfinity, Roku, Amazon Fire, Android TV, AppleTV, iOS, GooglePlay for Android and Chromecast. kweliTV is super affordable at only $5.99 per month and the first week is free. We're urging everyone, whether you're Black or not, to give it a try.

kweliTV is definitely an eye-opener for the content it already has and now, with Howery, it promises to become even better!
