5-Year-Old Boy Shot and Killed While Riding His Bike by Unhinged Neighbor!

5-year-old Cannon Hinnant was out riding his bike in front of his house with his sisters on Sunday when he was approached by his neighbor. There was no argument, Cannon hadn't done anything wrong, the man wasn't a stranger so there was no need for the child to flee. That neighbor pulled out a gun, held it to Cannon's head and fired. Another neighbor, across the street, had been watching the children from her window. She saw the entire incident but thought that the man was playing with the children until she heard the screams and saw Cannon's father run toward his son's lifeless body. It was this neighbor who called the police.

"My first reaction was he's playing with the kids," Doris Lybrand said. "For a second, I thought, 'That couldn't happen.' People don't run across the street and kill kids."

Wilson, NC police arrived at the 5100 block of Archers Road just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday to find every parents worst fear. A mortally wounded child. Cannon was transported to an area hospital where he later died. His sisters, ages 7 and 8, witnessed the murder but were physically unharmed. The assailant, fled the scene.

He would elude the police for a full 24 hours before he was captured.

Via WRAL:

Darius N. Sessoms, 25, was apprehended in Goldsboro by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, Goldsboro police and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond in the Wilson County jail.

Cannon's family has known Sessoms for years and never thought he'd be capable of something so heinous.

'We used to play together and I never thought he’d kill someone. A mother now has to lay her son to rest at 5 years old which she should never have to do. He’ll never be forgotten,' Rachel Pipkin, a cousin of Cannon’s mother told CBS.

Earlier stories had falsely reported that Sessoms shot Cannon because he was riding his bike in his yard. That theory was proven false when witnesses confirmed that Cannon, and his sisters, were in their own yard.

As of this moment, there is no motive for the killing but Sessoms is behind bars where he should be. He's awaiting a court date but has said that he wishes to hire his own lawyer.

Cannon, who was supposed to be starting Kindergarten soon, will be missed by all those who loved him.

Please keep this family in your prayers. This is rough.
