We've said it before, we'll say it again. ALL THE CRAZY STUFF HAPPENS IN OHIO! This case is both unbelievable, psychotic and definitely something out of a horrible acid trip movie.
A Middleton, Ohio man was arrested after the body of a woman was found in a barrel on his property. William Slaton, 35, of Middletown, is charged with felony gross abuse of a corpse, felony tampering with evidence and misdemeanor failure to report a crime or death.
According to a news release, officers went to Slaton's home on June 30th after they received a call that a corpse was in a barrel on his property. “Officers advised (Slaton) of the complaint and he went back into the house, out to the back yard and tossed a barrel over the fence,” the release said.
“Officers checked the barrel to see if a person inside was in need of emergency medical attention and found the dead body of a female.”
"Slaton told detectives that he woke up the morning she died – after using narcotics – and went downstairs to find the woman hanging in the basement. Documents state Slaton then cut off all of her fingers and used a razor knife to cut off all of her tattoos.
According to police documents, Slaton then hid the fingers and skin in the basement of his home. Slaton said that he allowed the woman's body to lay in his basement for a few days after she was deceased, before placing her in the barrel in his backyard."
The woman's body was nude and covered in blow flies in several different stages of their life cycle. She has been identified as 21-year-old Cecily Cornett, of Somerville. An official cause of death is still pending as the coroner hasn't yet completed an autopsy.
This isn't Slaton's first run-in with the police. He previously served time in prison for child porn charges and got out in May 2018 after a seven year sentence. More charges could possibly be added to Slaton depending on Cornett's cause of death.
