Twin Girls Death Allegedly Caused by Suicidal Mother. Mom Charged with Murder.

A Long Island woman is in police custody after her infant daughters were found near death in the backseat of her car. Sources say that 24-year-old Tenia Campbell had been making suicidal threats and telling others that she wanted to kill herself, and her 2-year-old twin girls.

The police were tipped off around 2:30pm when Campbell's mother called 911. They searched a 60-mile stretch from Medford east to Montauk, where they found the van by the nature center at 1929 Montauk Highway.

Campbell and her children were found in a Montauk County Park nature center parking lot shortly after 4pm yesterday. The children were in cardiac arrest and were taken to Stony Brook Southhampton Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The police have not said how the children died but did say that there were no obvious signs of trauma to either child.

Campbell has been charged with two counts of second degree murder, police said. She will be arraigned on Friday in East Hampton Town Justice Court.
