10-Year-Old D.C. Girl Murdered Just Days After Her Birthday.

Makiyah Wilson was like any other 10-year-old girl. She loved her family, loved to play and loved ice cream. It was her love of the latter that lead to her death this past Monday, just days after her 10th birthday, in Washington D.C. Makiyah saw the ice cream truck near her home and went outside to purchase a treat. As she stepped outside, with her older sister nearby, Makiyah was gunned down for four masked men.

"About 8 p.m., four men jumped out of a car in the 300 block of 53rd Street NE and opened fire in all directions. Wilson was fatally struck. Four other people, including the girl's 18-year-old sister, were shot and wounded.

Police say more than 60 shots were fired before the men got back in the car and sped off.

"When she actually passed and took her last breath she was laying right there in front of her doorway," Wilson's mother, Donnetta Wilson, told News4.

Danntta Wilson said she panicked when she saw her daughter bleeding and she held Makiyah in her arms during her final moments.

"I held my baby," Donetta Wilson said. "The whole time she just kept saying, 'Mommy, calm down. It's burning.'"

This was absolutely senseless. There is NEVER a reason to pull up into a courtyard full of families and children and open fire. Our thoughts, prayers and love go out to Makiyah's family. A GoFundMe has been created to help the family and we urge anyone who can help to please do so.
