Lee Daniels in Talks to Produce a New Billie Holiday Biopic.

There's nothing I love more than a good biopic! In 1972 Diana Ross starred in "Lady Sings the Blues" which was the first biopic I ever saw (I still own it on VHS, don't judge me) and it solidified my love for the film genre. The film was based on the life of Blues singer Billie Holiday, her troubled childhood, love life, incredible battle with addiction and ultimately her death. To me, the film was perfect and was on my list of "movies Hollywood SHOULD NEVER reboot" until now!

Via Variety:

"Daniels is in talks to direct the Billie Holiday biopic “Billie.” Sources also add that R&B singer Andra Day is the top choice for the title role and Lakeith Stanfield for the male role, though nothing is yet finalized for either thesp.

Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are producing, with Pulitzer-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks penning the script. Mark Bomback had been developing this project with Roth and Kirschenbaum since its inception and is an executive producer on it. He had helped guide the development process with Daniels and Parks."

As of yet there's no word when, or where, the film will begin filming. This would be Daniels' first feature film since his last blockbuster "The Butler".

Do you all think Andra Day would make a good Billie Holiday? I think she's got the voice for it and, as we all know from the 1972 film, whether she looks like her or not doesn't matter. Who else do you think would possibly make a good "Lady Day"? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
