Fulton County Detention Officer Arrested After Having "Improper Contact" with a Male Inmate.

A Fulton County Detention Officer has been arrested today after she allegedly had "improper contact" with a male inmate.

Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat announced the charges against the now former employee just this morning.

According to reports, Kawana Jenkins, 36, is charged with two counts of Improper Sexual Contact by Employee or Agent, five counts of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, two counts of Reckless Conduct, two counts of Cruelty to Inmates, and one count of Obtain/Procure/Give Inmate Prohibited Item Without Authorization.

One of the incidents, between Jenkins and an unknown male, was caught on video. In the video Jenkins is talking to a man who appears to be filming the interaction and she's slouched down in a chair. The man has his hand in the video frame and places his fingers near Jenkins' mouth. Jenkins then sucks the man's fingers for several seconds before the video ends. Inside sources say that this video was found on an inmate's illegally acquired cellphone.

After the video was found by other officers and her identity confirmed, Jenkins, who had been employed with the Sheriff's Department since December 2019, was fired.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Department released the following statement saying "As Sheriff of Fulton County, I am committed to transparency and to holding each and every employee accountable to oath they have taken to protect and serve our community." says Fulton County Sheriff Patrick "Pat" Labat. "The actions of this one individual are certainly not a reflection of the men and women of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The vast majority of employees are to be commended for their integrity, commitment to service and the work they do day in and day out."

There is no word yet on whether Jenkins will have a bond set or if she'll have to stay incarcerated until a court date is set. There has also been no indication that the inmate in question, whose identity has not been revealed, will face any additional charges for being in possession of the contraband cellphone.
