Ground-Breaking Director, John Singleton, to be Removed from Life Support Following Stroke. [UPDATED

The revolutionary director of "Boyz n the Hood" John Singleton suffered a massive stroke on April 17, 2019 and has been fighting for his life ever since. A fight, it seems, that is coming to an end.

The director's family released a statement earlier today saying:

"It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John's doctors," the statement reads.

Singleton, 51, first gained international attention with his 1991 film "Boyz n the Hood" that earned him an Oscar nomination. He went on to write and/or produce cult classics such as "Poetic Justice", "Higher Learning" and "Baby Boy". He also directed Michael Jackson's iconic music video for his song "Remember the Time".

John Singleton is the father of 7 children Justice, Maasai, Hadar, Cleopatra, Selenesol, Isis, and Seven. His daughter Cleopatra has reportedly been at odds with his mother over control of Singleton's estate.

As of this moment there is no word on when he'll officially be removed from life support, or if it's already happened.

A statement is expected to be released after his passing with the details of his memorial.

UPDATED:

The family representative for John Singleton has confirmed that he was taken off of life support and passed away moments later.

John was married only once ... to Ghanaian actress Akosua Gyamama Busia (known for her role as Nettie in "The Color Purple") in October 1996.

This is indeed a sad time but his visual legacy will live on.
