7-Year-Old Bronx Girl in a Coma After Being Stabbed Repeatedly by Her Own Grandmother!

A 7-year-old Bronx girl is in a coma after her own grandmother repeatedly stabbed her last month. The brutal attack occurred during a visit to the family's Bronx home while on a break from school. The child's uncle said that they were all asleep on the night of February 21st when he woke up to the sounds of screaming. When he went to investigate he found the child covered in blood and immediately called emergency assistance for help.

When officers arrived they found the girl, unconscious and unresponsive, on a bed at a Clinton Avenue home near East 169th Street, authorities said. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The girl suffered significant blood loss and brain bleeding.

“This brave young girl is fighting for her life after her own grandmother allegedly attacked her as she slept, and with her 4-year-old sister present,” District Attorney Darcel Clark said. “We are hoping for a speedy recovery and will do everything we can to make sure these girls get the support they will need to deal with the trauma.”

The girl's grandmother, 65-year-old Maritza Yauger, was taken to the hospital for an evaluation before being taken into custody.

Yauger was arraigned in court last Wednesday on charges of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of first-degree assault and a count of endangering the welfare of a child. The grandmother was remanded into custody. Yauger is set to return to court on April 10.
