Yesterday two young women, sister in fact, were brutally attacked in a transit station. The sisters were minding their business, going from one destination when an unknown man took out a large knife and stabbed them both. Killing the younger of the two.
"According to the San Francisco Chronicle, relative Malika Harris identified the woman who died as her sister, Nia Wilson, who had attended Oakland High.
According to BART spokesman Jim Allison, the attacker was riding on the same Warm-Springs bound train as the women. The attacker then followed the women off the train at the MacArthur station when he stabbed them on the platform in what appears to be a random attack.
BART police are searching for the suspect who, according to Allison, is described as a white male who is heavy set with short hair in his 20s or 30s.
Allison said they had surveillance images of the suspect but said they would not be sharing the images as this time.
At around 8:00 a.m. a KTVU crew watched police recover a large knife from a construction site under Highway 24 along the MacArthur BART access road. It is unknown if it's the knife used in the stabbing, but police took it away as evidence.
“The senseless and violent stabbing of two young women on a BART train platform last night has shaken our community. Every parent who saw the father of Nia Wilson grieve for his daughter is heartbroken by this horrific act," Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said in a statement Monday.
The MacArthur BART station reopened at 4 a.m. Monday. The station was closed around 9:45 p.m. Sunday as police investigated the stabbings, BART spokesman Jim Allison said."
There have been reports that this senseless murder was caught on surveillance video but the authorities have yet to release it to the public. As of this moment no suspect has been detained.
This has got to stop.
