Police Foil 4th of July Terrorist Plans for Downtown Cleveland!
Demetrius Nathaniel Pitts is being charged as a domestic terrorist after the authorities say he planned to blow up downtown Cleveland, Ohio!
"Officials say a man has been arrested for an alleged attempt to bomb the July 4th parade in downtown Cleveland as part of a terror plot.
Demetrius Nathaniel Pitts is charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. He was arrested Sunday by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
The FBI began investigating what investigators called "disturbing Facebook posts." Officials received reports that Pitts was supporting Al Qaeda and had violent intentions toward U.S. Armed Forces.
At the time, he lived in southern Ohio, and an investigation began in the Cincinnati area.
Officials said they were concerned because Pitts had a history of felonious assault, domestic violence, aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.
In May, Pitts moved to Cleveland, where investigators say he continued to express his radical ideology.
He met with an undercover agent and told of his plans to bomb the 4th of July parade in downtown Cleveland, according to investigators.
The FBI said Pitts surveilled Voinovich Park and the U.S. Coast Guard Station as part of his plot.
According to the FBI, Pitts talked about giving remote control cars packed with explosives to the children of the military members. The FBI said he wanted to take out the Cathedral of St. John as well.
Investigators said Pitts is a U.S. citizen and was radicalized in the U.S. There's no current information that he traveled outside of the country.
Pitts will appear in court later today on the charges.
Pitts, also known as Abdur Raheem Rahfeeq, was quoted as saying that he wanted to "take St. John's Cathedral off the map". We know that people are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty but the evidence stacked against this man is pretty tough to dispute.
