Young Alabama Boy Accidentally Shoots and Kills His Mother While His Father, a Policeman, Works.

They mystery surrounding an Alabama woman's death has been solved and it's breaking more hearts than usual.

A Jefferson county Alabama woman was found shot to death in her home over the weekend and, through investigation, the shooter has been identified as her own son,

Reports say that Ayobiyi Abeni Cook, 29, was at home with her two sons when, somehow, her 12-year-old "unintentionally" shot her.

AL reports that Deputies about 12:10 a.m. Saturday received a 911 call for help at a home in the 2400 block of Freemont Avenue. When they arrived, they found Cook dead on the scene. She had been shot.

CBS News reports that during the investigation, detectives determined that Cook's 12-year-old son, who has not been named, unintentionally discharged a firearm, striking and killing his mom.

"The child originally fabricated a story that detectives determined was not possible," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "The child eventually gave a true account of what happened." Investigators say evidence supports that the shooting was unintentional.

The boy's family, who he will remain with, has been cooperative, the department said. The case will be addressed through the family court system.

Cook’s husband has been a police officer in Birmingham since 2019. He was working when his wife was died.
