Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla and Connor Esterson To Star In 'Spy Kids' Reboot!
If you were a child in the 90's, or have one, then you know all about "Spy Kids" and how it brought the fantastic world similar to "Mission Impossible" to a child's level. The franchise released four films, "Spy Kids", "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams", "Spy Kids 3: Game Over" and "Spy Kids 4: All The Time In The World". When I say that these films had a chokehold on the younger generation, I mean that with my whole heart! Originally starring Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino as the witty crime fighting parents, these films raked in millions! Now, the franchise is branching out for something new with a fresh cast to boot!
Netflix has tapped the franchise’s original creator and director Robert Rodriguez (We Can Be Heroes, Alita: Battle Angel) will write, direct and produce the next film, which will introduce the world to a new family of spies. Racer Max will co-write. The film marks Rodriguez’s second family film with Netflix, following the breakout success of the 2020 family action film We Can Be Heroes.
Gina Rodriguez (Awake, Someone Great, Annihilation), Zachary Levi(Shazam!, American Underdog, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Everly Carganilla (Yes Day, The Chair, The Afterparty) and newcomer Connor Esterson have been cast as the franchise’s new family.
Here's the new film's logline:
When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.
Leave it to the kids to have to rescue their "know it all" super spy parents!
It sounds interesting enough to have the "Spy Kid" OG fans perking up in anticipation. It seems like the wait might be indefinite because no premiere date has been released just yet.
