Missouri Woman Charged with Murder After Newborn Baby Drown in the Toilet.

Late yesterday afternoon Missouri police apprehended a woman who they believe caused the death of a newborn baby.

Makuya Stephanie Kambamba, 28, was arrested and charged nine days after police say she let her newborn son drown in a toilet.

According to court documents filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crime happened in a restroom at the Smithfield Foods plant in Milan, Missouri, where she works.

Investigators said Kambamba knowingly allowed her baby to drown in a toilet where she had given birth."

Court documents show that Kambamba told officers she gave birth on the toilet and saw the baby moving in the toilet water. She went on to say that she was unable to stand while having additional contractions so she sat back down on the toilet leaving the baby in the water.

Kambamba left him there until a nurse came 30 minutes later.

"An autopsy on the newborn revealed evidence consistent with a drowning victim.

Kambamba also faces charges of first-degree involuntary manslaughter, second-degree involuntary manslaughter and abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death.

She was processed Friday evening at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office in Milan before being transported to the Daviess/DeKalb Regional Jail in Pattonsburg, Missouri."

There is no word on whether the boy's father or other family members knew that she was pregnant.

Kambamba is being held without bond.
