Ralph Yarl, Shot When He Went to the Wrong Address, Released from Hospital. Gunman Identified.

16-year-old Ralph Yarl, who was shot in the head after mistakenly ringing the wrong doorbell, has been released from the hospital.

Yarl was attempting to pick up his younger siblings from an unfamiliar home last Thursday just before 10pm. Yarl accidentally went to 115th Terrace Street, instead of 115th Street, got out of his vehicle and rang the doorbell. Instead of being greeted by his brothers or their friends, he was met by an angry stranger wielding a gun.

Reports say that the 84-year-old homeowner, who is a white male, yelled at Yarl then shot him in the head. After Yarl fell to the ground the man then came out of his house , stood over Yarl and shot him again.

By the grace of God, Yarl managed to scramble to his feet and run away. He went to neighboring houses, banging on three different doors, before he could receive any help. One neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that she did call 911 but, the operator told her to stay inside her home and not open the door because they didn't know where the shooter was.

As customary, police arrived at the scene and took the gunman, later identified as Andrew Lester, into custody. For an incident such as this, the accused can spend anywhere from 24-48 hours in custody pending investigative details. Records show this this man was released after only TWO hours.

Harp's father, Paul Yarl, said that his son was released from the hospital yesterday and that "He continues to improve. He's responsive and he's making good progress." He is being cared for by his mother who is a nurse and other family members who are trained medical professionals.

This investigation is ongoing.
