"Pressure" Singer Ari Lennox Allegedly Harassed and Racially Profiled During a Visit to Amsterdam.
If you've had your ears tuned into the new R&B artists that have dropped in the last two years then you know who Ari Lennox is. Lennox popped up on the scene just ahead of everybody's quarantine with her debut hit "Shea Butter Baby" and stole the hearts of neo-soul loving R&B fans everywhere.
She quickly became a fan favorite for her outspoken ways, love of her unmodified body and the "realness" that she showed fans in her, often very candid, live videos.
The star has been known to tweet events in her life and the most recent tweets sent out by the star is what has fans worried.
Fresh off of the stage at this year's Soul Train Awards stage, where she performed with fellow R&B youngster and favorite Summer Walker, Lennox landed in Amsterdam and was met by grief. Just hours before the incident she tweeted video of herself and Walker with the caption "My baby". That was the last happy tweet she sent.
Her next tweets detailed events that weren't just surprising but unsettling to her fans. She presumably arrived in Amsterdam around 3:16am when she tweeted "Hi Amsterdam" letting fans know just where she was in the world.
That tweet was followed by one, an hour later, that instantly let fans know that the vibe had changed.
Then the star states that she just wants to go home and never leave her house again.
While Lennox didn't say what her actions were she did say that she was being arrested as a result of her reaction to being racially profiled.
According to Reuters, Dutch military police, who are responsible for security at Schiphol airport, said Lennox was held because of her aggressive behaviour towards an airline official, and for being drunk in public.
"Our unit found a woman full of emotions, that wouldn't calm down," spokesman Robert van Kapel said. "That's why she had to be taken into custody."
It was unclear on Monday afternoon how long Lennox would remain in custody, Van Kapel said, as police were investigating claims of possible threats made by Lennox during the incident.
Word on the street is that Amsterdam has a racism problem akin to, maybe even worse than, the one here in the United States. Prayers that Ari makes it home safe and that these charges prove to be fruitless.
