Some of us spent our last day of 2018 with friends and loved ones. Some of us spent it at work, some of us partied and some of us spent it puzzled. Yes, puzzled. Let me explain. I came across a video that showed a McDonald's customer attacking a female employee but getting more than he bargained for.
The incident took place in St. Petersburg, Florida at a McDonald's restaurant on 34th Street on New Year's Eve. It is said that the blow up was over a straw but that hasn't been confirmed.
The video, originally posted to Facebook, begins with tension already high and a disagreement between the male customer and the female employee. Seemingly out of no where the customer reaches across the counter and forcefully yanks the employee, by her shirt, toward him. It was at that moment that he realized he messed up. Royally! Watch.
The incident took the web by storm and not just because of the altercation. One viewer contacted the store and found out even more information about the employee. As it turns out, she's a MINOR and hasn't been fired.
Many of us who have viewed the clip have been left confused as to why, with so many other people present, didn't SOMEONE come to her aid? The wonderful citizens of the internet have tons to say about it both in support of her actions and against the actions of those around her.
Honestly, Black women are just as vulnerable as every other woman on the planet it's just that we don't have the space to be vulnerable in. We've constantly had to "harden" ourselves in order to protect us from the evils that lurk in the dark. It's not that we don't need Black men, that's a bold face lie and so is anyone who tells it. We need to be able to TRUST that they have our back just like we have theirs. The problem is, many Black women don't trust Black men for whatever reason and, if a sister hasn't been able to trust anyone, she's going to learn to trust only in herself.
The assailant left the store before the police arrived HOWEVER, he was arrested because in all of the commotion, he must have left his wallet with all of his identification.
Let's hope he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law but also, let's hope that this video becomes an eye opener for those who stand on the sidelines, playing "Bird Box", like they don't see the circumstances of others. It's time to SEE!
