Two Women Gunned Down as They Sat on Their Friend's Porch in the Middle of the Night. Alleged Gunman is an Ex.

As three friends sat on a porch in the wee hours of the morning, a lone gunman laid in wait with murder on his mind.

Police in Houston, Texas were called to a home in Independence Heights, on East 37th Street near Yale Street, just before 2a.m. when neighbors reported shots had been fired. When they arrived, they found three women had been shot and two of them were dead. With no one on the streets at the time of the shooting, authorities had no idea who the suspect could be. Until they began to look through neighbors surveillance footage.

Investigators said there was an argument earlier in the evening, and then later in the evening, the three women who were friends were outside sitting on the porch when someone walked up to the house and shot at them. Two of the women, Mary Arredondo, a 39-year-old mother of four, and a 22-year-old, were killed immediately. The third woman managed to escape by running away. She was later taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released.

The identity of the second woman killed has not been released.

The surviving victim says that she doesn't know who shot her and killed her friends. Police believe that the suspect, who fled the scene, just as he'd arrived, on foot, is an ex of the woman who survived.

“It appeared to be an ambush-style attack,” HPD Det. J. Diaz said. “The suspect hid behind a fence, then proceeded to ambush the victims from behind.”

According to reports there were five children inside the home. None of them belonged to Arredondo and none of them saw who shot the women.

Our prayers are with the families of the deceased.
