Suspect Arrested for Murdering 17-Year-Old Girl and Leaving Her Body in a Georgia Cemetery.
The body of a young woman was found in a Georgia cemetery Sunday afternoon. Police officers made the discovery at the cemetery across from Unionville Church on Highfalls Park Road. The body was found by a person who was visiting the grave of a family member. They initially thought someone had dumped trash behind the cemetery and went to check it out. When they came upon the young woman's body they immediately called the police.
The victim only identified as a 17-year-old African American female who was from the metro Atlanta area. Hunter has last been seen alive about 24 hours before her body was found. The sheriff's office said she had suffered at least one gunshot wound. She was later identified by her family as D’Shaunti Kyanni Hunter of Atlanta, Georgia. The teen’s family said she left for work Saturday afternoon but never returned.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations launched an investigation to find Hunter's killer that led them across state lines and into Florida.
The Lamar County Sheriff's Department released a statement saying that the GBI and US Marshals arrested Jaylan Jashad Ray, age 22 of Albany, Georgia in Tallahassee,Florida. Two firearms were found inside the vehicle that Ray was driving at the time of his arrest. Neither has been determined to be the murder weapon yet.
Ray is currently awaiting extradition in Leon county jail, in Florida. Warrants have been taken for Murder and aggravated assault.
A tip from an anonymous person led police to search Ray's mother's apartment in Albany which gave them cause to check in Florida for him. There was enough evidence found inside the apartment to lead them to believe that Ray was the one responsible for Hunter's murder.
There is no known motive as to why Hunter was killed and no details as to her relationship with Ray. Whatever the case may have been, no one deserves to be gunned down like this.
We know this has got to be hard for her family and our sincere prayers are with them.
