South Carolina School Bus Driver Accused of Sexually Assaulting a Student!
An Oconee County School District bus driver is behind bars today after he allegedly sexually assaulted a student.
Windell Sutton Powell Jr., 74, had been employed with the South Carolina School District since October 18, 2016 and, according to reports, had never been under suspicion of any wrongdoing until recently.
Authorities say the investigation began in May after a family member of the victim saw text messages between the victim and Powell, which indicated a sexual relationship.
Investigators said they determined that Powell had sexually assaulted the victim between November 2021 and May 2022.
In this day and age it seems that there's someone trying to take advantage of kids around every corner and the school bus driver should have been a trusted adult.
We do know that school bus drivers are normally vetted and have to have background checks but, we also know that not every person who's a threat has been caught before. This looks like the case in this situation.
Powell's victim is said to be a minor, no gender given, under the age of 16. He is charged with one count each of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and criminal solicitation of a minor, as well as two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
If kids aren't safe in school or on the school bus, what are parents supposed to do?
