Blame it on Omicron! This Year's 64th Grammy Awards Show Postponed Due to Rise in Covid Cases!

Like most entertainment and news journalists I was anxiously awaiting word on the 64th Annual Grammy Awards show that was slated for later this month. It's not that I was just waiting to see red carpet glam, wild performances or notable wins and loses, I was waiting to see if the award show would happen at all.

This country has had a huge spike in coronavirus cases, and deaths, since the new omicron variant hit the scene late last year. This particular variant is more contagious and spreading like wildfire in a dry forest! Our team was waiting with bated breath and anticipation and we just received the news, via email, that the 64th Annual Grammy Awards show has been postponed.

Here's joint statement we received from the Recording Academy® and CBS:

"After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy® and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards® Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music's Biggest Night® on a future date, which will be announced soon."

This is definitely a bummer but, we'd rather everyone be safe than sorry! We'll keep you informed on further details as they become available!
