Mother Charged After Her Dog Mauls Her Newborn to Death!
A Lafayette, Indiana mother has been arrested and charged after her dog mauled her newborn to death. According to police reports Jennifer Nicole Connell, 38, was taken into custody at her home in the 1900 block of Greenbush Street yesterday and charged with the death of her son, Julian who was only 26-days-old, who died in a dog attack incident in their home earlier this year.
According to JC Online:
"Connell had two dogs living in her home on Jan. 25, and one of them, the pit bull terrier mix, was aggressive toward the other dog, as well as to Connell, her teenage son and her infant, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Connell told police she was trying to find the pit bull terrier mix a new home after a recent incident in which the dog had become aggressive toward the infant, according to the affidavit.
Late in the morning on Jan. 25, Connell's infant was left on her bed to sleep, but the aggressive dog got into the room and attacked the smaller dog, according to the affidavit.
The teen removed the smaller dog, which was injured, and returned to the bedroom to find the aggressive dog on the bed standing over the infant with blood on its mouth and chest, according to the affidavit.
When police officers arrived, they shot the aggressive dog to get to the infant, who later died from his injuries."
Connell has been charged with three counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury. For keeping her teenage son and her infant in what prosecutors described as an unsanitary and unsafe house, prosecutors charged Connell with two counts of neglect of a dependent. She remains in the Tippecanoe County Jail.
