Just Getting Worse! Mom ALLEGEDLY Knocked Toddler Unconscious and Abandoned Him Weeks Before He Died

More details have emerged in the case of Wanisha Smith who was arrested Tuesday for the death of her son. As we reported yesterday, Smith was arrested on Tuesday after firefighters were called to her house for a "bad smell". Once inside they found the decomposing body of a young boy.

Now, the full story is coming to light and things look much much worse.

According to court records, obtained by WHIO, Smith “left him alone...knowing doing so would cause him to die.”

Smith told police she hurt the boy “by bumping his head into a chair rendering him unconscious and unresponsive.” She also said she never attempted to provide medical care for him.

Court records show the child had been left in the apartment since approximately May 16.

Wanisha Smith, 33, of Dayton, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering for causing the death of her on-year-old son.

Smith appeared in court this morning for an initial appearance and entered a not guilty plea on the charges and bond was set at $1 million. A preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for June 19.

Smith's other children are safe with relatives.
