Arrest Made for Obstruction in the Death of Two Georgia Sisters Found Under a Bridge.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has made an arrest in the deaths of two sisters last week.

28-year-old Desmond Lavonte Brown on a misdemeanor obstruction charge in connection to the death of 19-year-old Vanita Nicole Richardson and her 31-year-old sister, Truvenia Clarece Campbell.

The sisters bodies were found on May 13, 2020 underneath a bridge overpass in Rome, Georgia. The GBI was called in because of the suspicious nature of their deaths. Both women were found with bags on their heads and shotgun shells near their bodies.

Although the details surrounding their cause of death have been limited, the GBI has been diligently working to solve the case.

Monday afternoon the GBI and local authorities were on the scene at the Callier Forest Apartments on Dodd Boulevard.

The Rome Police Department was requested by the GBI to pull over a vehicle in the location to execute a search warrant around 2 p.m. Monday, according to 911 traffic.

Brown is charged with entering a vehicle after being told not to do so by police and then resisting officers before being restrained.

GBI spokesperson Nelly Miles said the agency is not ready to report any updates on the homicide investigation but described the case as “very active.”

This case has caught the attention of the commissioners and the entire bureau of investigations. They do not believe that the murders were gang related and, as of now, are sharing very little information with the public. However, they did share one bit of information.

Last week the GBI put out a call for anyone who had information about the two women whose bodies were found on the outskirts of Rome. They also asked for any information concerning a 1997 gold Toyota Corolla with the license plate RTJ6295.

The GBI said the two women were in the car, which belonged to Richardson, sometime on the evening of May 12 — less than 24 hours before their bodies were found under a bridge over the Etowah River on the East Rome bypass.

If you have any information on the deaths of Vanita Richardson and Truvenia Campbell we urge you to contact the GBI tip line at 1-800-597-8477 (TIPS).
