North Carolina Woman Allegedly Kills a Man and TWO Children on New Year's Day.
On what should have been a celebratory day, one North Carolina family is mourning the loss of their beloved family members.
Greensboro, N.C. police were called to a home on the 3600 block of Sweet Birch Drive for a welfare check just after 11a.m. on New Year's Day and were met with a gruesome scene. Three people at the residence had been assaulted. Two of them were dead when they arrived and one, who was initially unresponsive, passed away at the hospital a short time later.
According to MyFox8 News "When they [the police] got to the scene, they say they witnessed an aggravated assault" on at least one of the victims.
The victims were identified as Mkenzie Denise McKinney, 10, Serenity Taliem Rose, 2, and Jerry Griffin, 61.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident at a Citgo gas station, police said.
Brittany Christina McKinney was in a hit-and-run car accident less than an hour after the homicides occurred, according to the police report.
The report stated McKinney crashed into a power pole before hitting another car. She was driving a 2011 GMC previously owned by Griffin, one of the victims she is accused of killing.
McKinney is the mother of Mkenzie McKinney and the aunt of Serenity Rose. McKinney is said to have had some type of relationship with Griffin but the nature of the relationship is unknown.
McKinney, 28, was taken into custody in connection to the murders at the scene of the accident.
McKinney made her first court appearance this morning but did not have much to say for herself. She, reportedly, admitted to have substance abuse issues.
No motive has been determined.
She is being charged with three counts of first degree murder.
