Two Dozen People from Ohio Prison Taken to the Hospital After Possible Fentanyl Exposure!

24 people, including inmates, guards, nurses and other staff, were taken to a Chillicothe area hospital all suffering from a suspected fentanyl overdose.

The incident happened just after 9am this morning when Ohio State Troopers were called to the correctional facility for a possible medical emergency. The victims were suffering from nausea and a host of other symptoms that lead authorities to believe they had been exposed to an unknown drug.

Via Fox 8:

"Naloxone, the drug is used to combat overdoses caused by opioids such as heroin or fentanyl, was administered to victims, and 300 more Narcan doses are available at the facility. The victims were taken to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The contaminated cell block was cleared and inmates were relocated to other parts of the institution.

A hazardous material decontamination team was called to the scene."

NBC4

"The hospital says the majority of those taken to the emergency room will be treated and released. One patient is expected to be admitted to the hospital for additional treatment.

The hospital decontamination procedures are in place for any patient being admitted to the hospital for treatment from RCI. Any hospital staff members treating those patients are also undergoing decontamination procedures as a precaution.

Ambulance traffic is also being diverted to other areas hospitals to avoid accidental contamination. Additionally, Adena Regional Medical Center moved all patients not related to the RCI incident to another part of the hospital.

The hospital says it goes through several hours of training every year in order to be able to properly respond to incidents such as the one today."

This incident is still under investigation and we will keep you updated as it develops.
