Kenan Thompson is Living the Life He "Always Dreamed Of".
If you've been around for more than 20 years, you'll be familiar with Kenan Thompson. He's been the funny friend on Nickelodeon's "All That", one half of the teen comedy duo "Kenan and Kel" and now a key player in nearly every skit on Saturday Night Live!
Thompson's career in comedy began when he was just 15 years old and now, 25 years later, he's reaping the fruits of his hard, but hilarious, labor.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Thompson sat down to discuss his nomination for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy, his personal life, with his wife and two young daughters, and how it feels to be at this point in his career.
Thompson told reporters that his entire summer has been a dream. He and his wife have welcomed their second daughter and their oldest daughter loves being a big sister. Everyone is healthy and the Emmy nod is just icing on the cake.
“It’s one of those things that you always want and dream of—especially growing up and watching those awards shows every single year," Thompson said "But you never really think it’s gonna happen, and then all of a sudden, it’s like ‘Maybe it can happen.’ And then what if it happens? What do you say?”
One thing is definitely certain, Thompson has earned awards in the hearts of his fans over the years and winning an Emmy will just solidify what we've always known. Thompson has staying power in the comedy community and his 15 years on SNL proves it.
Fans won't have to worry about Thompson leaving SNL anytime soon as both he and the shows head honcho Lorne Michaels have no intentions of severing their relationship. When asked what he'd like his legacy on the show to be Thompson said:
“Everybody wants to be a solid performer on here, you know?” he said. “I look up to Phil Hartman and Will Ferrell as two of the greatest who have ever done it, as far as reviews are concerned—but we all know certain individuals’ names because of their time there, and when they did it right, they’re the ones that are household names. I want people to say that I did it right.”
You're definitely doing it right Kenan! Keep up the good work!
