5 Reasons Why You Need to Gather Your Crew and See "Girls Trip"!

I went to see "Girls Trip", the new movie starring Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Queen Latifah and Tiffany Haddish, last night. I went thinking that I wanted to support a movie full of Black women, about women, having fun and enjoying life. I wholly expected to see everything funny from the trailers and that MAYBE there would be a few additional moments that the producers left out of them just for the movie. Listen, when I tell you that this movie completely blew me away, IT DID! I have never laughed so much at one movie in my life! This, hands-down is THE BEST movie I've seen all year and trust me, I see a lot of movies!

Every single actress in this movie brought her A-game and completely embodied their character. These characters were so well written I feel like we all have a friend just like each one of them. Who are they? I'll give you the tea. There's Ryan, played by Regina Hall, who is the professional who has the perfect life and all of her stuff together. Lisa, Jada Pinkett-Smith's character, the divorced and over-worked mom who is so busy mothering and working that she forgets how to have a life. Sasha, played by Queen Latifah, the celebrity blogger who flosses like she has it all together but secretly doesn't, and Dina. . . Lord this one! Dina is the extra hood friend who is always down for a good time and checking somebody else's man! She's the life of the party and sometimes the troublemaker too! Tiffany Haddish did an AMAZING job bringing Dina to life!

After seeing this movie I decided to give you all 5 reasons why you need to see it too!

Reason #5: You've never seen crowd participation like the crowd you're going to be viewing with when you watch "Girls Trip".

The entire audience was talking back to the screen, laughing out loud and not caring if the person next to them was loud. I saw everyone from little old white ladies, red hat societies and a random 10 year old who SHOULD NOT have seen this movie! Seriously, it's NOT for kids! (There's a flash of full frontal male nudity). Our movie theater smelled like everything from Ben-Gay to Chick-Fil-A and I was not ashamed by the Sugar Babies that I smuggled in my purse!

Reason #4: There are some FINE men in this movie!!

If you've never seen "Queen Sugar" on OWN, then you've probably missed out on the wondrous works that God performed when he made Kofi Siriboe. This man is super fine and even had the little old ladies int he theater gasping and clutching invisible pearls!

Reason #3: There are a ton of cameo's in this movie!

This film is set in New Orleans during the Essence Festival and because of that, it's is PACKED with cameo appearances from some of the entertainment industry's elite members! Director Ava DuVernay (Selma, Queen Sugar, A Wrinkle in Time), makes an appearance as does New Edition, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Diddy, Mase, Faith Evans, Maxwell, Common, Ne-yo and so many more! "Girls Trip" gave you the experience of going to the Essence Festival without having to pack one single bag!

Reason #2: The relationship between the "Flossy Posse".

Not too many women can say that they have three friends that they're so close to that they'd actually share a bed. The bond between these ladies, although strained at times, was the most realistic "sister-friend" relationship that I've seen on film in a very long time. They made each other laugh, consoled each other and cussed each other out JUST LIKE 90% of the world's Black "sister-friends" do. Kudos to the writers for getting this right and not watering down our passionate personalities! Their loyalty to one another is to be appreciated as well. We might all fall out a time or two but we don't hurt one another intentionally (if you're mature that is) and we always stand by our girls when the going gets tough, or when she's making a mistake and we know she's gonna need us when it crumbles!

REASON #1: TIFFANY HADDISH!!!

I hate to single out one actress over another but listen, Tiffany Haddish is a complete nut in this movie, in a good way!! She's the friend you call when you're down and need something to laugh at. The one you call when somebody broke your heart. The one you call when you need a friend to key a dude's car for you. She's THAT friend! If you thought all of her funny parts were seen in the trailer. . . THINK AGAIN! Every single scene that she's in is brightened by her facial expressions, her infectious laugh or her ability to create and execute a plot at a moments notice! I've already decided that Tiffany Haddish needs to be my friend and I'm gonna make it happen!

To sum up the movie, it's just an all out amazing film that is both great for date night and a night out with the girls! Do yourself a favor and go see it! If you've already seen it, let's discuss it in the comments below! Spoilers welcome!
