10-Year-Old Boy Saves Baby Sister from Drowning in the Bathtub After Their Mom Allegedly Overdoses!
A 10-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after saving his baby sister from drowning and calling paramedics for his mother and her boyfriend.
On June 18, 2023, Amanda Deblasis was presumably attempting to bathe her infant daughter when passed out on the bathroom floor. Her oldest son entered the bathroom and quickly scooped up the infant and returned her to her crib in his mother's bedroom. There, he also attempted to rouse his mother's boyfriend, but could not wake him. The child then did the only thing he could think of doing, he called for help.
WFMJ reports that responding EMTs administered the opioid overdose reversal drug Narcan, Deblasis regained consciousness and told officers that she had taken some “Oxy” given to her by a friend. Deblasis was transported to Sharon Regional Medical Center.
Responders reported that the living conditions inside of the home were deplorable and "unfit" for the children. There was "clutter and junk piled all over the house" and "when walking down the stairs, part of the ceiling is missing with scaffolding exposed. There are items in the broken ceiling area which what appeared to be an old bookbag and other items stored in there for a long time as evident by heavy dust and webs around the items."
Sharon Regional Medical Center officials told police that Deblasis discharged herself from the hospital despite their request for her to stay and receive proper treatment. She was arrested and booked a short time later.
Deblasis was arraigned in Girard Municipal Court today, where she is charged with four misdemeanor counts of child endangering and one felony count of drug possession
